‘ING advertises with savings guarantee’

Dutch banks, including ING, are trying to attract customers abroad by pointing out that the Dutch government now guarantees savings up to 100,000 euros, according to the NRC.


The paper says Dutch law bans banks and insurance companies from using information about the safety net for advertising.
ING Direct denies it is breaking the law and says the claim is only made on its website for information purposes.
The Netherlands raised its guarantee on savings from €38,000 to €100,000 earlier this month, following the collapse of Icelandic internet bank Icesave.
