Imams angry at ‘call back’ claim

A group of 35 imams who went back to Morocco at the cost of the Moroccan government were there to talk about religious affairs with imams from other parts of Europe.

‘We often go to meetings abroad to talk to collegues,’ Khammar el-Bakkali of the Dutch imams’ association VIN is quoted as saying by the AD newspaper.
MPs and other Moroccan organisations had expressed their concerns about the trip.
The Volksrant newspaper said on Wednesday the imams had been recalled for ‘instructions’ and had made the trip without the knowledge of their mosque authorities.
