One hundred million cigarettes with a tax value of €14.6m were intercepted by Dutch custom officials in the first six months of 2008, according to the financial investigation service.

This is 15 million cigarettes more than in the whole of 2007. Most of them came from China, the Middle East and Eastern Europe. Around half were found in the port of Rotterdam and bound for Britain.
