Government suspends ABN Amro adverts

Finance minister Wouter Bos has told ABN Amro to be careful about how it advertises itself, now that the bank has been nationalised.

Adverts in the national press on Tuesday suggested that the bank now offers greater security to customers because it is 100% government-owned.
Bos told tv show Nova on Tuesday night that ABN Amro must not use its new position ‘to make life uncomfortable for other banks’.
According to Wednesday’s Financieele Dagblad, the finance ministry and ABN Amro have confirmed that the bank’s advertising campaign to attract new savers has been suspended.
