Ex union chief on ING supervisory board

Lodewijk de Waal (57), former leader of the Netherlands’ biggest trade union federation FNV, has been appointed to the ING supervisory board, reports Thursday’s Financieele Dagblad.

De Waal left the FNV in 2005 and now works for the charitable organisation Humanitas.
Finance minister Wouter Bos has also reaffirmed the appointment of Peter Elverding (59). Elverding, who already serves on the board, was formerly CEO of chemicals company DSM and a supervisory board member of the Dutch central bank until 2007.
‘These are people who can operate independently,’ Bos told the FD.
The state got the right to name two members of the board, who will be able to veto major decisions, when it injected €10bn into ING earlier this week.
