EU rules might hit seal fur ban
The Dutch ban on the trade of seal fur might have to be toned down due to new European regulations, reports NRC on Tuesday.
The European Commission has proposed a ban on the import and trade of seal fur but, according to the Dutch agriculture ministry, this does not go as far as existing Dutch regulations.
The new EU rules would allow the trade of fur from seals that have been killed ‘in a humane manner’, the paper says.
