Remember poverty targets, PM tells UN

World leaders should not let the current financial crisis distract them from meeting the United Nation’s millennium targets on reducing poverty, Dutch prime minister Jan Peter Balkenende told a meeting of the UN on Thursday.


‘We have to ask, what sort of world do we want to leave for our children and our grand children,’ Balkenende said. The prime minister was speaking during the UN’s general assembly in New York.
ANP reports that Balkenende was the last to speak in Thursday’s session, after the leaders of Norway and the Saint Kitts and Nevis islands.
