Probe into rise in problem youth

Families minister André Rouvoet is to set up an inquiry into the sharp increase in the number of young people with problems.

The probe comes after the head of the youth social services warned of the growing numbers of youngsters claiming social security because of psychiatric problems. Some 10,000 youngsters are currently waiting for help.
Rouvoet’s investigation will be broader in scope, covering referrals to special schools and other demands on the welfare system. The number of children with attention deficit disorders, for example, has nearly tripled in five years.
