Mixed results for Dutch teams in Europe

The five Dutch teams competing in European football’s UEFA Cup booked mixed results in Thursday night’s opening games of the tournament.

Amsterdam club Ajax cruised past Borac Cacak 4-1 in Belgrade, with striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar returning to form with two goals.
Nijmegen’s NEC caused the biggest surprise, beating Dinamo Bucharest 1-0 at home.
The biggest Dutch upset was in Rotterdam where Feyenoord lost 1-0 to Sweden’s Kalmar FF.
FC Twente of Enschede, meanwhile, saw their early 1-0 lead disappear in France as Rennes scored twice from set pieces.
Meanwhile, Heerenveen drew 1-1 away to Vitoria Setubal in Lisbon.
The second leg of the first round will be played in two weeks.
