Minister positive about deal in Zimbabwe

Dutch foreign affairs minister Maxime Verhagen has reacted positively to the news that Zimbabwe’s opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai and President Robert Mugabe have reached a power-sharing deal, reports ANP news agency.

Verhagen, who spoke to Tsvangirai on Thursday before the agreement was made public, said the Netherlands is sympathetic to giving aid to Zimbabwe.
‘We don’t know the details [of the agreement] yet but I share Tsvangirai’s optimism. The agreement finally gives Zimbabwe hope for a better future after years of violence, terror and terrible poverty,’ the minister is quoted as saying.
