Green leader tops budget debate

Femke Halsema, leader of the opposition green party GroenLinks, has won the Dutch debating institute’s new Socrates prize for her performance during last week’s debate on the 2009 budget.


According to the jury, Halsema stood out for her ‘clear presentation, sharp reactions and targeted strategy,’ reports public broadcaster NOS.
Mark Rutter, leader of the right-wing Liberal VVD party was runner up.
