Fewer building permits in first half

Local councils gave out building permits for over 35,000 new homes in the first six months of 2008, says national statistics office CBS. The figure is 5% down on the 2007 first half.

But 28,000 new homes were actually completed in the first six months of this year, up 13% on the same period in 2007.
