FC Groningen move to top as PSV slip up
FC Groningen moved to the top of the premier football league this weekend following a surprise defeat for reigning champion PSV.
The Eindhoven club were beaten 0-1 by AZ of Alkmaar on Saturday. Groningen clinched the top position with a 1-1 draw with Heracles in Almelo, also on Saturday.
Newly promoted The Hague club ADO, who had won their first two games, could have moved to the top of league with a victory on Sunday. But the club failed to maintain their winning streak, losing 0-2 to De Graafschap of Doetinchem.
The biggest game of the weekend, Feyenoord of Rotterdam against Amsterdam’s Ajax, ended in a 2-2 draw on Sunday, after Feyenoord were awarded a dubious penalty late in the game.
