Dutch women see Palin as role model

Several Dutch women sing the praises of Republican Sarah Palin, who is running to become the first female vice president in the US, in Friday’s De Pers.

Feminist Heleen Mees sees her as a role model for Dutch women: ‘She is refreshing, a sort of [tv presenter] Linda de Mol,’ Mees is quoted as saying.
And the fact that Palin’s 17-year-old daughter is pregnant ‘makes her human’, Ineke Ludikhuize, director of the Christian women’s movement Passage, tells the paper. ‘She shows that you can work and be good to your children, and count as a Christian’.
Janneke de Leede, editor of glossy Christian magazine Eva, tells De Pers that it is inspiring to see a woman with five children in such a position.
And Esmé Wiegman, an MP for the orthodix Christian party ChristenUnie points out ‘she wears glasses, like me.’
