Chicken manure burned to produce power

Agriculture minister Gerda Verburg is to open a new power plant in Moerdijk today which will use one-third of the chicken manure produced in the Netherlands to generate electricity.

The 440,000 tons of manure are sufficient to generate electricity for 90,000 households for one year. The left-over ash will be used to make fertilisers.
