Brewers unhappy with tax increase on beer

Government plans to raise the tax on beer by 30% from January 2009 could have a disastrous affect, Dutch brewers say in Thursday’s FD.


The government hopes the rise will help discourage youngsters and problem drinkers from buying beer.
However, the central brewery office CBK says the tax rise will hit average drinkers, coming on top of rising prices for grain, hops, energy and transport.
