Amsterdam-Almere tunnel plan revived
The governing Christian Democrat party (CDA) is expected to revive controversial plans for a traffic tunnel under Naardermeer lake linking Amsterdam with the Flevopolder town of Almere on Tuesday.
According to the AD newspaper, CDA MP Ger Koopmans is to urge transport minister Camiel Eurlings to hold another investigation into the feasibility of the plan aimed at easing traffic congestion in the area.
The tunnel plan was fiercely contested in 2005 and 2006 and was abandoned as a result of environmental objections.
