AEX firms book stable earnings

The 25 companies that make up the AEX index have done almost as well in the first half of 2008 as they did in the same period of 2007, according to calculations by shareholders lobby group VEB.

Their total profit came to €43.1bn, compared with €43.9bn in 2007. Shell and ArcelorMittal kept the drop to a minimum. Without them, total earnings would have fallen by 11.6%.
