Van der Vaart to play for Real Madrid

Dutch international Rafael van der Vaart (25) confirmed on Monday afternoon that he has been transferred to the Spanish football club Real Madrid.

‘As everyone knows I have always wanted to go to Spain because I’ve got a strong [family] connection with the country. So now that I am going to play for Real Madrid, it’s a dream come true,’ says Van der Vaart on his website.
The midfielder, who currently plays for Hamburg SV, has been signed up to Real for the coming five years, reports ANP new service. It is believed Real paid €15m for the transfer.
Van der Vaart will join a number of other Dutch footballers at Madrid including Ruud van Nistelrooy, Arjen Robben, Royston Drenthe and Wesley Sneijder.
Sneijder injured his left knee on during a friendly against UK’s Arsenal on Sunday and is not expected to be able to play for up to four months, says ANP.
