Olympics: women reach water polo final
The Dutch women’s water polo team reached the final at the Beijing Olympics on Tuesday with a surprise 8-7 win over Hungary.
They take on the USA, reigning world champions, in the final.
The Dutch men’s hockey team reached the semi-finals early on Tuesday morning. They beat Pakistan 4-2, with Taeke Taekema scoring two of the goals.
Also on course for a gold medal is Anky van Grunsven in the dressage. The Netherlands most famous horsewoman took the gold in Sydney in 2000 and in Athens in 2004. She will be in action on Tuesday against the German Isabell Werth who is currently slightly ahead on points.
Other Dutch medal hopefuls are gymnast Epke Zonderland in the final of the high bar, cyclist Willy Kanis in the spring semi-final, the women’s waterpolo team who meet Hungary in the semi-final and Rutger Smith in the discus final.
