The number of Dutch people spending their holidays in the Netherlands rose over 8% in 2007 compared to the previous year, reports the national statistics office CBS on Monday.

The increase is probably the result of higher petrol costs and falling spending power, the CBS said.
Meanwhile, the total volume of tourists in the Netherlands continued to grow last year with just over 30 million guests booking into a hotel, an increase of 5% on 2006, said the CBS.
