The young pelican which escaped from Amsterdam’s Artis zoo last week has been spotted on a nature reserve south of Assen, news agency ANP reports.

‘We are not allowed on the reserve but a warden is keeping an eye on it for us,’ a zoo spokesman said. Pelicans have their wings clipped to prevent them escaping.
In 2005 another pelican escaped from Artis but was eventually recaptured after being lured by fish.
