Car thefts fall and motorbike theft rises

The downturn in car thefts continued in the first half of this year but more motorbikes are being stolen, according to new police figures.

Almost 5,750 cars were stolen in the first six months of 2008, a drop of over 4% on 2007.
But motorbike thefts rose 9% to 890. The most popular car to steal is a Volkswagen.
