The sale of new bicycles rose sharply over the past two years according to figures released on Monday by the national statistics office CBS.
Turnover rose 15% in 2006 and 9% – 1.4 million bikes – in 2007. The first quarter of 2008 saw a rise of 3% over 2007.
A good start, says the CBS, as most people buy a new bike in the second quarter.
