Up to half the food bought is not eaten

Between one third and 50% of the food bought in the Netherlands is wasted, according to the agriculture economic institute LEI in Saturday’s Parool.

Every year consumers throw some €600m worth of uneaten food away, supermarkets and the catering industry throw out food to the value of €640m and producers dump food valued at €300m, LEI says.
It wants the issue of wasted food to be placed on the political agenda.
