Unions want minister statement on Fortis
White collar unions De Unie and BBV have written to finance minister Wouter Bos urging him to make a statement about the situation at financial services group Fortis.
The unions say they are concerned about the future of the Belgian-Dutch group. Because its share price has fallen, the bank itself is a take-over target, the unions say.
‘Now that Fortis is the subject of daily financial speculation, we expect you and your senior civil servants, together with the central bank, to act as confidence boosters,’ the letter ends.
‘Bos must now say ‘Fortis is not in danger’, De Unie chairman Jacques Teuwen says on the unions website.
