Pensioner caught growing marijuana

A 73-year-old man in The Hague was surprised to be told by police last week that the begonias he had been tending in the flower beds by his front door concealed marijuana plants, reports news agency Reuters.

‘Police officers suddenly noticed marijuana plants sprouting from his begonias,’ a police spokeswoman in The Hague told Reuters.
The pensioner promised to destroy the marijuana plants, which he believes were planted by local youngsters, says Reuters.
Earlier this month the Dutch government set up a task force to crack down on marijuana cultivation. Growing marijuana is illegal in the Netherlands, but a blind eye is turned to its sale in so-called coffee shops.
