Lighting boosts Philips earnings

Electronics group Philips booked profit before tax and amortisation of €413m in the second quarter of this year, compared with €386m in the same period in 2007.

Philips said the growth was largely due to its lighting division. Sales rose 7% from €6bn to €6.5bn.
‘Our second quarter results are a reflection of both the quality and the resilience of our overall business portfolio in a rapidly deteriorating macro-economic environment,’ CEO Gerard Kleisterlee said in a statement.
