Four in 10 babies have unmarried parents
Four in 10 babies born last year had parents who were not married compared to one in 10 a decade ago, reports the national statistics office CBS on Monday.
The increase is largely die to a rise in the number of people who live together but are not married says the CBS. An increasing number of these couples continue to live together after the birth of children, the organisation says.
Some 90% of first-time mothers under the age of 20 are unmarried, says the CBS. Just over 50% of women who are older than 35 are unmarried they have their first baby.
