Four die in climbing accident in the Alps
A 57-year-old doctor from Almere and his three children aged between 16 and 23 died on Thursday in a climbing accident on Mount Dolent which borders France, Italy and Switzerland.
The four were joined by a rope and it is believed that one of them slipped causing them all to fall hundreds of meters down the mountain side.
The mother of the children, who was further down the mountain side, saw the accident.
According to local press reports she had decided to give up the climb and was waiting for the rest of the family to return.
‘I saw my husband and children fall from a distance of 200 meters. First one slipped and then the others,’ she is quoted as telling the Italian news agency ANSA.
The mother was not injured but was taken to hospital with shock.
