The Netherlands is to allocate an extra €9m in food aid to Somalia, Ethiopia and Eritra in response to an appeal by the United Nations, reports ANP news service.

‘The situation is these three countries has deteriorated rapidly in the last few months as a result of a combination of rising food prices, drought and conflict. There will be unbearable suffering if we don’t help,’ aid minister Bert Koenders told ANP.
The extra cash brings Dutch aid to the three African countries to €27.5m this year, says ANP.
