Verdonk protests at bodyguard withdrawal
MP and leader of the nationalist party TON, Rita Verdonk, claims the security services have stopped providing her with personal bodyguards.
Verdonk told tv chat show Knevel en Van den Brink that she was stopping her fund-raising tour of the country because security had been withdrawn. ‘It is a very strange state of affairs,’ Verdonk said. ‘There are enough incidents. The threat is far from gone.’
A spokesman for the anti-terrorism body NCTb denied that Verdonk no longer received protection. A new mix of security measures had been put into place for the MP, the spokesman told news agency ANP. Changes had been made because she was no longer considered to be such a serious target.
