US firm wants to speed up ASMI unit buy
The American micro-chip machine maker Applied Materials wants to speed up its takeover of a large part of Dutch chip machine maker ASMI, says the Financieele Dagblad on Monday.
The Americans want talks early this week with an eye to reaching agreement ‘within a few weeks’, says the paper.
Applied Materials was reacting to a press statement on Friday in which ASMI refused the offer for two parts of its production division but left the door open for alternative suggestions. The Financieele Dagblad says this means a buy-out of the whole division.
Shares in ASMI rose 10% on Monday morning to €19.38 as speculation grew on a quick deal.
Applied Materials has offered up to €320m for the two ASMI units. ASMI is currently under pressure from activist shareholders to change course.
