Special events bring in smoking ban
A ban on smoking in cafes, bars, night clubs, concert halls and shopping centres comes into effect in the Netherlands at midnight on Monday.
From tomorrow, smokers will only be able to smoke in a bar by using a special closed-off smoking room or by going outside.
The Telegraaf lists many of the events organised to bring in the smoke-free bar: the hotel l‘Europe in Amsterdam, for example, organised a party on Friday night where ‘for a hefty admission fee’ unlimited cigarettes were handed out. And visitors to the SJU Jazzpodium were given free cigarettes during a farewell Smoking Jazz evening.
In The Hague, the pop concert hall Het Paard is holding a special evening tonight, when songs about cigarettes will be performed. And the Cavia film house in Amsterdam is holding a screening of old cigarette commercials and famous film scenes with smoking stars.
