Royal spending revamp to take longer
Prime minister Jan Peter Balkenende told MPs on Friday he had no plans to publish full details of government spending on the royal family within two weeks, as MPs had requested.
Instead, it will take some four months to put all the information together, the prime minister said.
RTL tv has also applied for more details under freedom of information legislation.
From 2011 or 2012, the entire budget for the royal household will be considered as one item of spending, but Balkenende said he would try to bring that forward to 2010.
At the moment, the cost is spread over a number of ministries and there is no overview. For example, last week it emerged that the defence ministry had published wrong figures for the cost of maintaining queen Beatrix’s private yacht.
