The Dutch national football team will be playing on Dutch turf when it meets Sweden or Russia in the quarter finals of Euro 2008 on Saturday.
Turf suppliers Hendriks Graszoden announced on Monday it is shipping 26 containers to Switzerland, reports news agency ANP
The turf will replace the pitch at St Jakob-Park in Basel where heavy rainfall in the first week of the championship has caused problems for players. The new pitch must be finished on Tuesday, says ANP.
According to UEFA, the new turf will cost €200,000.
But coach Marco van Basten is not pleased with the new pitch. ‘New grass is not good. Players will slide,’ he was quoted as saying. ‘I am not happy about the situation.’
