Older voters back the prime minister
Prime minister Jan Peter Balkenende is just one percentage point above Rita Verdonk in a popularity poll carried out among voters aged 49 to 92.
Balkenende took 21% of the vote. D66 leader Alexander Pechtold was third, with 7.8%.
