A copy of Harry Mulisch’s book Het Woord bij de Daad about the Cuban revolution, which the author signed and sent to Cuban leader Fidel Castro, has turned up at book valuation day at Amsterdam University, reports NRCNext.
The owner says he bought the book during a holiday in Havana for three pesos. It is not clear whether it ever reached Castro.
The Spanish text to Castro, as quoted by the NRC, translates roughly as ‘dedicated in wonder to commander Fidel Castro, who together with his Cuban people has made a leap forward, not of 100 years but of 1,000 years’.
