Koolhaas designs giant cube for Rotterdam
The internationally renowned Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas has unveiled plans for a enormous cube in the centre of Rotterdam, reports Tuesday’s Volkskrant.
The 80 metre high building will offer 120,000 square metres of living, shopping and office space together with a theatre, a museum and restaurants.
The transparent cube is costed at €500m. Construction will begin in 2011 with a completion date of 2013. Its shape and the fact that the sun will turn it yellow have already given the building the nickname ‘the block of cheese’.
