Hostage-taker angry at permit delays
The 41-year-old man who took five people hostage in Almelo town hall on Monday was angry over delays for a permit to operate his café, town mayor Menno Knip confirmed on Monday evening.
The city council’s appeal committee is due to decide on the licence on June 25, Knip said in a statement. In addition, a loan made in connection with the De Rechter café is under investigation under the Bibob rules, which require café owners to pass an integrity check, news agency ANP reported.
No-one was hurt in the hostage-taking, which lasted several hours.
