Government to invest in bus services

The government is to put €16m into ending the ongoing pay dispute between regional bus drivers and private bus companies, Groningen provincial councillor Henk Bleker told news agency ANP on Wednesday.

Junior transport minister Tineke Huizinga is due to give a news conference in The Hague at 11am.
NOS tv reports that the government is also planning to introduce a fuel surcharge for bus travel from January 2009.
Unions and employers reached an agreement in principle of a 3.5% pay rise last week but the strikes have continued as no way had been found to pay for the increase.
