Dutch banks agreed new mortgages totalling € 17bn in the first three months of this year, down € 3bn on the year-earlier period, according to central bank figures.

The bank said the decrease is due to rising mortgage interest rates which have gone up from an average 3.8% three years ago to 5.2% now.
