Dutch thrash Italy 3-0 in Euro 2008 football

The Dutch national football team beat world champions Italy in an unexpected but convincing 3-0 victory in their first game of Euro 2008 on Monday night.


The Dutch team oozed confidence and dominated most of the game in Bern, Switzerland.
The win gives the Netherlands control of the so-called Group of Death. The other two teams in the group – France and Romania – drew 0-0. The Netherlands plays France on Friday.
The Netherlands was 2-0 at half time after goals from Ruud van Nistelrooij and Wesley Sneider. Giovanni van Bronckhorst made it 3-0 after the break.
