Companies not liable for speeding fines

Postal company TNT Post does not have to pay a €52 speeding ticket given to one of its delivery workers while on duty, the high court ruled on Friday.

Two lower courts had earlier said the employer should pay the fine because the worker had not deliberately broken the speed limit and had not been ‘reckless’. Reckless driving is considered to be breaking the speed limit by 10 to 50 kph.
Transport organisations welcomed the appeal court ruling, saying everyone breaking the speed limit would now be treated the same way.
