Comedian apologises for smashing camera

Dutch cabaret artist Theo Maassen has apologised for smashing a photographer’s camera during his performance at the Amsterdam Comedy Festival on Saturday and promised to refund the €15,000 it cost.

The photographer, Ilvy Njiokiktjien, has accepted his apology and is considering withdraw her official complaint.
Maassen had requested no photography during his act but the organisers had given Spits photographer Njiokiktjien permission to take photos.
After grabbing the camera, Maassen asked the audience what he should do with it. The response was to smash it, which he did, leaving the photographer in tears.
