Animal welfare not properly monitored
The government does not do enough to make sure animal welfare rules on factory farms are being properly kept, the government auditor’s office said in a report on the intensive farming sector on Thursday.
While 5% of farms should be inspected every year, no-one knows if this is actually achieved, the report states. In addition, the fixed number of hours which should be spent on farm visits has often not been met.
