Almelo hostages freed, man arrested

The siege at Almelo town hall ended at around 4.45pm on Monday afternoon without injury to the five hostages, police told news agency ANP.

The hostages were taken this morning when a 41-year-old man ran amok after being refused a licence for his restaurant De Rechter, the Telegraaf’s website says.
The man set his restaurant on fire and then drove to the town hall where he set fire to his car. Armed with a pistol, he forced his way into the building and took a member of the council executive and four officials hostage.
The Telegraaf says at least one person was injured in the fire at the café and some 20 people were forced to leave their homes upstairs.
