Albert Heijn boosts Ahold first quarter

Supermarket group Ahold booked net income of €221m from on-going operations in the first quarter of 2008, helped by a strong performance at its Albert Heijn supermarket chain where sales rose 13.5%.

Net profit went up from €237m (when income from US Food Service was still included) to €258m this year.
First-quarter sales dropped 1.3%, due to the weaker dollar. Ahold generates more than half of group sales in the US.
