Van der Sar hailed as a hero

Manchester United keeper and Dutch international Edwin van der Sar makes most of the front pages on Thursday after the dramatic save in the penalty shoot out which won his team the Champions League trophy in Moscow.

‘Leading role for Van der Sar in the long Moscow night’ is the Volkskrant’s headline above a photo of the winning team.
‘Van der Sar, United’s hero,’ says the Telegraaf.
Van der Sar (37) was full of confidence as Chelsea’s Nicolas Anelka walked to the penalty spot and he knew he was going to make the winning save, the paper says. ‘I knew I would get the ball on my glove when I saw Anelka… when I got my fist to it, I knew the cup was ours,’ Van der Sar told the paper.
Van der Sar, who previously won the cup with Ajax in 1995, is set to join the Dutch national squad at their training camp in Hoenderloo on Monday for Euro 2008.
