Juliana requested cakes for prisoners
Queen Juliana suggested treating all prisoners to cream cakes when she abdicated in favour of her daughter Beatrix in 1980, according to a new biography about Dries van Agt, who was prime minister at the time.
With Van Agt away on a state visit, the request was made to deputy prime minister Hans Wiegel, says Monday’s Volkskrant which reports the story.
Wiegel responded by saying it was a good idea, adding that ‘we can ice each cake with the words: we wish you many more years’.
